Ukriane Starts Biodiesel Production in Kirovohrad

Ukraine started production of biodiesel at meat processing factory Yatran in the region of Kirovohrad, southeastern Ukraine, it was reported on June 23, 2006.
The sharp rise in prices of natural gas and electricity in the agricultural sector will lead to a jump in production costs of sector companies. One of the ways to lower expenditures is the introduction of biodiesel extraction at the cost of 1.0 hryvnia ($0.2/0.159 euro) for a litre, using own raw materials, data of the regional state administration showed.
Prices for diesel fuel soared 2.1-fold in the two-year period from June 1, 2004 to June 1, 2006. At the same time, prices of products used for manufacturing biodiesel, sunflower and soy, dropped by 10 pct and 11 pct, respectively, in 2005 compared to 2004. Rape price remained unchanged in the period.
