Latvia: Second biodiesel producer kicks off.
(c) Baltic News Service 2006
Mezrozite company has been officially launched as the second biodiesel producer in Latvia. The new biodiesel plant has been opened in Jelgava county, central Latvia.
The plant initially had been used for production of bricks, said Mezrozite representative Dainis Laugalis.
When Mezrozite took over the plant, the company started with production of charcoal and briquets, but with the changing situation in the timber market, opportunities for restructuring were searched for, the Dienas Bizness daily reported.
Latvian Biofuel Association chairman Daumants Znatajs has said that four Latvian plants would produce biofuel this year.
Naukseni plant in north Latvia will produce 2,500-3,000 tons of biofuel, Daugavpils plant in south-east Latvia will produce 3,500 tons, Mezrozite and Iecavnieks near Riga will each produce 10,000 tons of biofuel.
