Belneftekhim to submit biodiesel program to govt Nov 22

Prime-TASS Belarus

MINSK, Nov 20 (Prime-Tass)—Belarus' state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim will submit to the government its diesel biofuel program on November 22, said Grigory Ushkevich, the deputy head of the investment and development department with the concern.

Under the program, Belarus will be making 120,000 tonnes of methyl ether annually starting 2010. The main contractors are OAO Grodno Azot and OAO Mogilevkhimvolokno, which will produce 60,000 tonnes of ether each.

The biofuel unit at Grodno Azot also makes up to 2,000 tonnes of by-products annually, especially fatty acid ethers and glycerin. «We will thus have a non-waste industry,» Ushkevich said. Glycerin prices have reached $500 per tonne on the world market recently.
