According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, biodiesel production in the Czech Republic fell by 26 % y/y to 81,800 tons last year. Domestic consumption increased by 83 % to almost 37,000 tons while biodiesel exports fell by 52 % to 53,600 tons. Exports were primarily destined for Germany (27,700 tons) and Slovakia (20,800).Domestic firms produced 26,500 tons of bioethanol last year. Considering the fact that bioalcohol addition to gasoline in the Czech Republic did not begin until January 2008, only 287 tons of this biocomponent were consumed on the domestic market last year. A total of 17,000 tons of bioethanol were exported and 9,200 tons deposited in reservoirs.

(CIA, Apr 18) In the first quarter of the year Benzina raised its fuel sales by 5 % y/y to 114,000 tons.

(CIA, Apr 25) The average price of gasoline Natural 95 dropped by CZK 0.01 w/w to CZK 30.77 per litre in week 17 of the year. Diesel prices rose by an average of CZK 0.55 to CZK 31.97 per litre. The data was supplied by the Czech Statistical Bureau.

(HN-16, Apr 18) A power plant producing electricity from second generation biofuels is to be built in Lovosice near Litomerice next year. It would combust wood chips and agricultural waste. The factory, which will be situated on the grounds of Lovochemie that are owned by Agrofert, will be constructed at a cost of CZK 300 mln. Some sources suggest that the plant would be operated by a non-profitable association consisting of farming and forestry research institutes, the Chemical Industry Association and Lesy CR.
