The Crimea's authorities initiate the construction of plant producing biofuel in Radianskyi district. Ukrainian News learned this from the chairman of investment policy department of the Crimea's Ministry of Economy.

According to him, it's presumed that the enterprise will be situated at the industrial estate of the former dairy factory. The project of the construction of plant producing biofuel has been developed by Ukrainian Corporation of Biomass Fuel Producers and at present, the Crimea's authorities are looking for the investor. The estimated cost of the plant construction makes about USD 5 million.

It's planned that raw materials for processing will be grown in the North-Eastern part of the Crimea according to modern technologies without irrigation. The Crimea's landowners had sown with winter rape 42,400 hectares for 2008 yield. It's presumed that in future its sown area will be increased to 100,000 hectares; in this connection it is planned to construct a network of plants producing biofuel. According to the Crimea's Ministry of Economy, the estimated consumption of diesel fuel in the Crimea's agriculture makes about 50,000 tons a year.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, at the end of July the Vitol Company (Bratskyi district, Mykolaiv region) and Inecon Group AS (Czech Republic) announced their intention to construct a plant producing biofuel of rape Bratskyi district of Mykolaiv region. The project cost made EUR 22.5 million, the future capacity 25,000 tons a year. Earlier the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the order of use of resources envisaged in the national budget of 2007 for state support of crop production, according to which the state grants for one hectare of rape crops make UAH 50 per hectare (UAH 65 per hectare in 2006).

In 2007, Ukrainian landowners planned to sow with rape 800,000 hectares.
