East Europe's first biofuel station opens in Chernivtsi

Ukrainian National News Agency

KYIV, May 6 /UKRINFORM/. The first in Ukraine and the whole of Eastern Europe biofuel station branded Energy Strategies and Biotechnologies has opened in Chernivtsi (West Ukraine), LIGABusinessInform reported.

It sells two kinds of motor fuel made of biomaterial: the Bio-100 analog of high-octane gasoline, and biodiesel fuel. The price of the biofuel is UAH 0.5 lower (UAH 5.5 per liter with UAH 5.05 / USD 1) than its petrol analogs.

At the initial stage of the project implementation, the fuel will be supplied from Moldova. In the perspective, it is planned to launch the production of biofuel in the territory of Ukraine. The number of biofuel stations is expected to reach ten by the end of May 2008.

In 2006, the production of Bio-100 started at the Lokhvytsia distillery. The National Agency for Effective Use of Energy Resources called the product as Ukraine's first biofuel in 2007.

The sale of the new fuel began at above 30 Ukrainian filling stations, but due to the UkrSpyrt concern protests, its production was stopped in April 2007 in Lokhvytsia, and transferred to Moldova.
