Export of Belarusian vegetable oil reported up by 280 percent last year

Minsk, 3 March. The export of Belarusian vegetable oil soared by 280 percent to 81,500 tons in 2009, Nelya Navitskaya, a departmental chief at the Belarusian State Food Industry Concern (Beldzyarzhkharchpram), told reporters in Minsk on Wednesday. Belarusian manufacturers supplied vegetable oil to Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine last year. "Exporting rape oil is advantageous as foreign customers pay a high price of €580 to €600 per ton," Ms. Navitskaya said, adding that domestic per-ton prices did not exceed 1,950,000 rubels (€490). A total of 138,000 tons of vegetable oil was produced in Belarus last year and rape oil accounted for 99 percent of the amount, according to Ms. Navitskaya. Of the amount, 20,000 tons was used for biofuel manufacture. The state conglomerate controls the Vitsyebsk Oil Extraction Plant and three vegetable oil processing plants, which are based in Homyel, Minsk and Vitsyebsk.
Their bottled vegetable oil output declined by 10.7 percent to 10,600 tons in 2009. By Maryna Nosava, BelaPAN
