RENEWABLES: CIS Countries News Review Sept 2007 - Part 1 of 2Energy and Commodities Digest BIOFUEL PLANT CONSTRUCTION, BIOFUEL PRODUCTION Austrian Mayr-Melnhof Holz Efimovskij will build a biofuel plant with an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes in Russian Leningrad region, in the northwestern part of the country. The facility will open in 2008. *** Russian gas producer Novatek invested $19 mln (13.4 mln euro) in the construction of a menthanol plant at its Yurkharovskoye gas deposit in Yamal-Nenets region, northwestern Siberia. *** Russian company Alternative Fuel Biotechnologies plans to build a plant for biofuel pellets with an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes in Rostov region, southern Russia. *** The first biogas plant in Armenia will be launched in September 2008. Investments in the project are seen at 3.5 mln euro ($5.0 mln). The plant, which will generate electricity from gas produced from chicken manure, will have an installed capacity of 834 kW. *** Kazakhstan plans to reach an annual bioethanol output of one billion litres by 2010, Berik Ospanov, a senior offiecial at the Kazakh Agricultural Ministry said.
