A planned biodiesel factory in the Russian republic of Tatarstan will initially export all of its production to European countries, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev told media on November 27, 2007.

European countries are willing to purchase biodiesel from Russia because they do not have enough cultivation land to spare for biofuel production, he added.

The plant will have a processing capacity of one million tonnes of grain a year.

Russia plans to take further steps to stimulate the development of biofuel production.

There is currently an oil extraction plant that processes rapeseed in Tatarstan, some 700 km east of Moscow.
