United Russia offers to develop biofuel program.

MOSCOW, August 25 (Itar-Tass) — Chairman of the Russian State Duma Boris Gryzlov has come out with a proposal to develop a national program in the sphere of biofuel, the press service of the United Russia party reported on Saturday.

This program, as the speaker said, «would be topical not only for native power engineering and agriculture, but from the point of view of ecology too.» Commenting on the pace of implementation of the party project «Factory of Thought,» the party leader noted that he considers the direction connected with the development of biofuel «to be most perspective.» According to him, biofuel — — bioethanol, biogas, biodiesel fuel and peat — — plays ever greater role in transport energy, including in connection with stably high prices of oil.

«Russia's agroenergy potential is comparable, according to resources, with possibilities the oil and fuel complex,» Boris Gryzlov is sure. The speaker came to this conclusion studying specialists' estimates, according to which the use of wastes of agriculture and the timber industry will make it possible to get about 100 billion litres of bioethanol a year. Now our country annually consumes some 30 billion litres of petrol.
