US Poultry Supplies to Russia Down 20%

(c) 2007 NOVECON.

American experts forecast US poultry supplies to Russia to drop by 10% to 20% to 599,000 tonnes to 674,000 tonnes in 2007.

The cost of products will rise by 30% to 40%. The reason is the crisis in the American poultry industry; corn which is the main food in the US poultry industry is now widely used on the bioethanol market. The shortage of feed leads to the reduction in the US poultry production. The resulting factory price on the US chicken parts grew by 80% to 90%. After American poultry products leave the market, the vacant niche may be occupied by Russian producers. In the coming three years, broiler meat production in Russia is to grow by 70%. In 2006, the growth was 17% to 20%.
