ST. PETERSBURG.  — The state is ready to finance the development and production of biofuels, Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov said.

It is expedient to implement programs to explore alternative types of energy and to reduce the dependence of agriculture on traditional fuels, including gas, Zubkov said at the St. Petersburg State Agriculture University. «Lets produce biofuels,» the PM said.

Proposals on the production of biofuels from arable crops are being considered, Viktor Yefimov, the rector of the St. Petersburg State Agriculture University, told Zubkov. «We propone producing fuel from spring-planted rapeseed,» the rector said.

«Go on, propose! We will find money! This is promising because the country is huge and there is free land,» Zubkov said in return.
