Belarus can provide itself with biofuel in 3 or 4 years

According to him, in the near future the country will set up new facilities to produce biofuel. Two of them will appear in Mozyr and Bobruisk. They will produce 10 million decalitres and 55 million decalitres of bioethanol a year respectively. Recently an experimental installation to produce methyl ether from rape oil has been assembled at Grodno Azot. The same project will be carried out at Mogilevkhimvolokno, the first deputy minister noted.

Alexander Apatsky also added that Belarus has enough agricultural areas to grow rape and produce rape oil. According to the specialist, it is possible to grow rape on the radiation affected areas as rape seeds practically do not accumulate radionuclides and can be used to produce qualitative biofuel.

Belarus also attracts foreign investors to set up biofuel production facilities in the country. "We have already had positive results. Some foreign companies expressed their readiness to cooperate. Potential investors from Ireland are among them," Alexander Apatsky said. In the future, the Belarusian bioethanol is expected to be exported including to the EU member countries.
