Bioethanol plant in Tatarstan to export its products to Europe

SKRIN Newswire

A bioethanol plant which is being built in Tatarstan will make products mostly for export to European countries, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said Tuesday at his working meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin stressed that the world's surging demand for biofuel spurs price hikes. «Countries that can produce necessary amounts of crops are not so many, you can count them on the fingers of one hand,» Putin said. «And they include Russia.» «It is necessary to create conditions for business of biofuels,» he added. Alexei Gordeyev answered that European countries are ready to buy biofuels in Russia now, since they lack in sown areas. «We have such reserves and first plants are being constructed,» the Minister said.

«A bioethanol plant is being built in Omsk, some large rape processing plants have been built, for example in Tatarstan.» The products made at these plants first of all will be exported to European countries to satisfy their needs in biofuels, the Minister said. Tatarstan has an oil extraction plant which primarily processes rape. Besides, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov and Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev discussed the construction of Russia's first biofuel plant with the Tatarstan authorities during their visit to Tatarstan. The plant is planned to process 1 mln tons of crops a year, Tatar-inform said.
