Home / Bioethanol / News Biotechnologies Corp to spend $1.5 bln on biofuel plants in Russia© [2008] PRIME-TASS News Agency All Rights Reserved IRKUTSK, Sep 9 (Prime-Tass) -- Biotechnologies Corporation, part of Russia's united industrial corporation Oboronprom, plans to invest around U.S. $1.5 billion over the next five to seven years in the creation of new biofuel plants in Russia, Igor Cheremnov, a member of the corporation's board of directors, said Tuesday at the Fifth Baikal Economic Forum. In particular, Biotechnologies Corporation plans to create around 30 plants with a combined output of 2 million tonnes of biofuel per year. Russia's first biofuel plant, which is located in the Irkutsk Region, produced its first batch of biofuel Tuesday, Cheremnov said, adding that the corporation planned to create a total of seven biofuel plants in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk regions. Biotechnologies Corporation aims to replace 5% of Russian gasoline market with biofuel.
