KYIV, March 22 /UKRINFORM/. Brazil is interested in the creation of a Ukrainian-Brazilian joint venture for biofuel production in Ukraine. This issue was discussed at the Ukrainian-Brazilian talks in Kyiv, the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry's press service has reported.

"We are interested in alternative types of fuel. The Brazilian side has serious plans in this regard, and we are even ready to set up a joint Ukrainian-Brazilian company for biofuel production in Ukraine," Brazilian Ambassador to Ukraine Antonio Fernando Cruz de Mello said.

He expressed hope that a working group for the implementation of this project would be formed in April.

Brazil, the world's second country after the United States in terms of the production of ethanol and its largest exporter, is actively popularizing the subject of biofuel in the world. "Since Ukraine uses the potential of biofuel at 1% and at the same time imports about 50% of energy resources, it is attractive for Brazil," the ministry said.

The sides also expressed their mutual interest in cooperation in other activities related to agriculture, in particular, the production and supply of fertilizers to Brazil.

Brazil said in March 2008 it was ready to cooperate with Ukraine in the production and use of biofuel.
