KYIV, February 4 /UKRINFORM/. Donetsk Mayor Oleksandr Lukianchenko has proposed that Finnish businessmen participate in the city's preparation for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship. He said this at a meeting with Under-Secretary of State at the Finnish Foreign Ministry Pekka Huhtaniemi and representatives of the ten largest Finnish companies operating in Ukraine.

Lukianchenko said that the "economic climate in Donetsk favors investment activity." A biodiesel plant of the U.S. company Cargill, which processes sunflower seeds, a number of joint ventures, the largest trade network of Germany's METRO Cash & Carry, and steel mills (with Russia being their co-owner) are situated in the city.

The head of the city council's main economic department, Serhiy Nikitenko, said that Donetsk is interested, first and foremost, in investment in the airport's reconstruction and the building of interchange stations in the city's subway, and the construction of hotels. He said that the city had prepared a draft for the reconstruction of a railway station ahead of Euro 2012, and a draft for an incinerator plant designed to process 200,000 tons of waste a year.

Huhtaniemi, in turn, said that Finnish business groups have proposals that might be interested for Donetsk.
