Poland Business Daily WARSAW. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE Top Polish refiner PKN Orlen has chosen German CropEnergies AG and Polish PHP Wawrzyniak as suppliers of bioethanol for its production of biofuels in the first half of next year following a tender conducted as an internet auction, the company stated Thursday. «In preparation for meeting the national index for biofuels, PKN Orlen announced the results of a tender for the supplier of bioethanol for biofuel production in the first half of 2008,» the statement reads. «In the internet auction two companies offered the best price: German CropEnergis AG and Polish PHP Wawrzyniak,» it added. The two suppliers will provide PKN Orlen with 47 mln litres of ethanol, which will provide 80% of the oil firm's needs in the first half of 2008, the company said. The remaining 20% of supplies will be provided by two Polish firms PG Suwin and Uni-malew, and Czech firm Agroetanol TTD. «Choosing a number of partners was motivated by the need to ensure diversity of suppliers,» the statement reads. The contracts with the suppliers will be signed for January-June 2008. PKN Orlen stated that bioethanol supplies for the second half of 2008 will be chosen in another auction, which is to be carried out in the second quarter of 2008. Starting from 2008 the level of biofuel component in petrol is supposed to increase from the current 2.3% to 3.45%
