Home / Bioethanol / News Irkutsk Region to Start Production of Biofuel Soon
IRKUTSK. The 5th Baikal Economic Forum, to be held in Irkutsk (East Siberia) on September 8-11, 2008, will present a project for the production of biobutanol, a new-generation motor fuel, in Tulun, the Irkutsk Region. Biobutanol (butyl alcohol) will be produced at the East Siberian Biotechnologies Plant (VSKBT) set up in December 2007 at the Tulun hydrolysis plant. The new plant will produce a non-pollutant fuel alternative to petrol by processing timber products into biomass. If the project proves successful, the advanced biofuel will be later produced at the Zimino, Biryusinsk and Ust-Ilimsk hydrolysis plants, which are now standing idle. Japan and the United States have already displayed interest in the new plant's products. -0-
