ALMATY, Feb 12 (Reuters) — Kazakhstan plans to build an ethanol and a biodiesel plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes each by 2011, a senior official told Reuters on Tuesday.

Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest producer of wheat, which is be used to produce ethanol.

«Each project is worth more than $100 million,» Alikhan Smailov, Chief Executive of state agricultural company KazAgro, said in a written response to questions sent by Reuters.

KazAgro is looking for private sector companies that would participate in the projects along with the state, Smailov said.

«Calculations show that these projects take quite long—more than ten years—to breakeven,» he said. The biodiesel plant will process rapeseed, Smailov said.

Kazakhstan is home to one ethanol plant with a capacity of 57,000 tonnes a year.
