Moldau: industry to cut dependence on oil imports

The Republic of Moldau is to take steps to reduce its dependence on imported oil. Measures include projects to make biofuels. It was announced in Nov 2007 that a bioethanol plant was to be erected in Giurgiulesti. The biofuel will be produced using 365,000 tonnes/y of corn. Construction costs are put at EUR 70 M. In the north of the country, US company Fuel Makers is to erect a bioethanol plant with initial capacity of 60,000 tonnes/y and eventual capacity of 150,000 tonnes/y. Investment is put at $35 M. A research institute is currently erecting a pilot plant for producing biodiesel. It will process rapeseed and sunflower oil.
