Next generation biofuels plant.

BP, Associated British Foods (ABF) and DuPont have plans of building a $400 M global-scale bioethanol facility and a hi-tech demo unit to develop next generation biofuels. BP and ABF subsidiary British Sugar would have a 45% stake each of the bioethanol plant while Dupont will control 10%. The 420 M litre/y bioethanol facility, due to be commissioned by the end of 2009, will use wheat as feedstock. It will be constructed on BP's chemicals site in Saltend, Hull, UK. The project also intends to convert biobutanol when the technology is available. Wheat feedstock supply is now undergoing negotiations with Frontier Agriculture. The proposed biobutanol demo unit will most likely be constructed in BP's Hull site and will go online in early 2009. The demo unit, a 50-50 jv between BP and Dupont, could yield 20,000 litres/y of biobutanol from different feedstocks.
