But combined, they could help feed the world: Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine have fertile yet untilled land the size of Idaho.If someone could just stitch the land back together and create modern farms, agronomists say, the vast spaces north and east of the Black Sea could generate an extra 115 million metric tons of wheat per year—20% of the world's current production.

BRIC to take stock of food shortage

PAVA Approved the Final Plan of the New Plant’s Production Capacities

On 05 May 2008 was announced, that OJSC PAVA, the largest grain processor of Siberia and the Far East works systematically for achieving the goal which was stated in 2007 — to construct an advanced wheat-based BioRefinery plant. The site chosen for the enterprise is in the Rebrikha district of the Altay Territory. After a careful study of the market conjuncture and the dynamics of present-day society, PAVA approved the final plan of the plant's production capacities. According to this plan the main outputs will be vital wheat gluten, starch, syrups, ethanol, farm animal feed, carbon dioxide and wheat germ oil.

Moldovan Seminte Nord Seeks Investors for $40 Mln Bioethanol Plant

Moldovan corn processor Seminte Nord is looking for investors in a $40 million (25.1 million euro) bioethanol production plant, the first in Moldova, which could ensure the country's energy security, a top company official said.“Seminte Nord is looking for partners to build a plant, which will produce 40 million litres of bioethanol annually from renewable energy sources, like corn and wheat. Moldova has a considerable surplus of biomass, which could be used for bioethanol production,» Seminte Nord deputy board chairman Valentin Budeanu told SeeNews in an interview.

Coskata Chooses Site for Demo Syngas-to-Ethanol Plant

Coskata Inc., a developer of syngas-to-ethanol technology, has announced the location of a 40,000 gallon per year cellulosic ethanol pilot plant. The plant, located about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is expected to begin delivering ethanol in early 2009 utilizing a variety of input materials, including woody biomass as well as agricultural and industrial wastes.

Russian Federation: Sugar Annual Report 2008

Sugar beet acreage is forecast to remain flat in marketing year (MY) 2009. Beet sugar production will decrease in MY 2008 but is forecast to rebound in MY 2009. Russia will increase refined sugar exports due to large raw sugar imports. Seasonal raw sugar import duties will remain in effect until May 31, 2008.

5 ethanol plans to be built in Kyrgyzstan

Five ethanol plans will be built in Kyrgyzstan to export ethanol to the U.S. The plants will employ the technology developed at the Rossorgo Scientific Institute of Design and Technology, SaratovBusinessConsulting reported citing Antoliy Ishin, Rossorgo Deputy Director.

CIA: AUTOMOTIVE - Fuel and petrol station

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, biodiesel production in the Czech Republic fell by 26 % y/y to 81,800 tons last year. Domestic consumption increased by 83 % to almost 37,000 tons while biodiesel exports fell by 52 % to 53,600 tons. Exports were primarily destined for Germany (27,700 tons) and Slovakia (20,800).Domestic firms produced 26,500 tons of bioethanol last year. Considering the fact that bioalcohol addition to gasoline in the Czech Republic did not begin until January 2008, only 287 tons of this biocomponent were consumed on the domestic market last year. A total of 17,000 tons of bioethanol were exported and 9,200 tons deposited in reservoirs.
