Thirty new plants producing biofuel are to be created in Russia, Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov has said, as reported by Interfax news agency on 12 March. «Existing plants will be refurbished and there will be 30 new plants producing ethanol,» Zubkov said, speaking at an international conference on the development of Russian forestry. Furthermore, from this year the Russian government intends to implement a programme to develop biofuel production in Russia, and increase production to 2m tonnes per year, Zubkov said, as quoted in a RIA Novosti report on the same day. «We have a programme, and we are going to introduce the programme from this year. We will raise production of ethanol to almost 2m tonnes,» Zubkov is reported as saying. «Russia has already adopted the Euro 3 standard this year, and we plan to work actively in the area of biofuel,» he added.
