SOCHI, Russia, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - State-owned Russian Technologies corporation plans to start building the country's first biofuel plant next year in Siberia, company head Sergei Chemezov said on Monday.

"We have signed all the agreements and will start building the plant from March-April. It is impossible to start building in winter there due to the weather, but we will have finished all project design works by the end of the year," Chemezov told President Dmitry Medvedev.

"I think, biotechnologies will be in great demand... wood chips, knots and roots will be processed to produce the biobutanol necessary to create new modern fuel," he said, adding that obligatory biobutanol additives from 10 to 15 percent are used in many countries.

"This allows, primarily, an increase in the petrol octane number, and secondly to considerably cut CO2 emissions," he said.

"The main difference is that they [other countries] use mainly, biomass, scraps of cane, corn and rape, while we will use wood chips," Chemezov said.
