Exports in January: Grains January's drop in shipments was the result of falling supply of export-quality grain and VAT refund problems. Despite the significant decrease in January, 2009/10 grain exports considerably exceed last year's volumes, and is at an all-time high. Wheat export fell by 42% in January. According to preliminary information, Ukraine exported 611 KMT of wheat in January compared with 1057 KMT in December. In total, 7,490 KMT of wheat has been exported this season. The largest buyers were South Korea and Tunisia. At the same time, shipments to Europe and South-East Asia dropped against December. As we expected, the share of milling wheat in total exports grew. Barley export fell 8% in January. According to preliminary information, Ukraine exported 351.4KMT of barley in January against 382.1 KMT in December. Barley exports have totaled 4,176.8 KMT this season. Export destinations remained unchanged: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Jordan. Corn export fell by 35% in January. According to preliminary information, Ukraine exported 696.6 KMT of corn in January against 1072 KMT in December. In total, corn export has amounted to 3,116.3 KMT since this season (October / January). The main buyer was Egypt (287KMT). High volumes also went to Israel, Portugal, and Syria.
