WTO approves Ukraine's accession terms

 - On Tuesday, February 5, the General Council of the WTO approved Ukraine's accession terms. Ukraine should ratify the deal by July 4, 2008 although an extension to that deadline would be possible if necessary. Ukraine would become the 152nd WTO member country 30 days after ratification.
It is rumored that Brussels and Kiev will concentrate on negotiations to accomplish a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) following Ukraine's membership of the WTO, with EU Trade Commissioner, Peter Mandelson, reportedly having already accepted an invitation to Kiev made by Prime Minister Julia Tymoschenko during her visit to Brussels last week.
